The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is a high-performance variant of the SLS AMG Coupe inspired by the SLS AMG GT3. Power increased to 622HP with revs increasing to 8,000 rpm. The Black Series is 154 lbs lighter than the standard SLS. This is accomplished by extensive use of carbon fibre in body panels, mechanical components, and the Aluminum Space Frame. Further, a switch from steel to titanium for the exhaust system reduces weight by 29 lbs. The use of lithium-ion battery reduces weight by 18 lbs.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission is installed 10 mm (0.39 in) lower in order to achieve a lower center of gravity for the car. Faster shifting, a more race inspired suspension, more aggressive exhaust node, more aggressive throttle blips on down shift, and the list goes on and on. Less than 200 of these beautiful cars made it to the US with this being the lowest mileage one on the market at 162 miles.
